How to prepare for your upcoming procedure

*If taking MiraLax, PuraLax or ClearLax dissolve the entire 510gm bottle into 128 oz (1 gallon) of water, when drinking alternate 8oz (1 cup) of this solution with 1 cup water and other liquids (soda, pulp free juice, coffee, tea, chicken broth, beef broth, vegetable broth or bouillon) that are NOT RED in color. 



3 DAYS PRIOR 7:00am - 11:00am - COVID19 Testing *if not fully vaccinated - submit vaccination card to office avoid COVID testing prior to procedure


2 DAYS PRIOR

NO FIBER (Fruits, vegetables, grains, seeds, nuts)

2:00pm START drinking 1/2 Gallon of MiraLAX solution

NO SOLID FOOD PAST 5PM

EAT AS MUCH AS YOU’D LIKE OF THE FOLLOWING UP UNTIL 5PM:

  • WHITE BREAD

  • WHITE RICE

  • WHITE PASTA

  • MEATS

  • YOGURT

  • EGGS

  • FISH

  • JELLO (NO RED)

  • BROTHS

1 DAY PRIOR TO YOUR PROCEDURE


LIQUIDS ONLY

BREAKFAST = LIQUIDS LUNCH= LIQUIDS DINNER = LIQUIDS


DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING AFTER MIDNIGHT (12:00am) – Night before your procedure


**You will receive a call from the Naugatuck Valley Surgical Center with a time for you to arrive at the facility on the date of your scheduled procedure and complete a prescreen phone call with a preoperative nurse.

11:00am – Take 2 Bisacodyl Tablets (orange pills) & 1 Simethicone Capsule (red pill) *if capsule or tablets are broken call office to pick up via drive by 11:05am – Begin last 1/2 gallon of MiraLAX solution

Tips:

  • Sip solution to help tolerate discomfort in taste or texture

  • If you feel you are going to vomit stop drinking the solution, take a 1 to 2 hour break then begin again slowly 

  • Mix solution with white cranberry juice or other juice (not red) to help with taste


MEDICATION CHANGES DIABETICS - Take 1/2 of diabetic medications / insulin the day before procedure

Aspirin & blood thinners (Plavix, Carvidelol, Brilanta, Xeralto, etc) - Hold off on taking these medication 1 day before your procedure

*you will receive a phone call from Dr. Mari's office to confirm the results of your COVID19 testing and answer any questions or concerns you may have prior to your procedure scheduled for the following day.


MEDICATION CHANGES BLOOD PRESSURE RX *TAKE AS NORMAL DIABETICS TAKE ½ OF YOUR NORMAL DOSE OF YOUR MEDICATION / INSULIN 1 DAY BEFORE COLONOSCOPY WHILE ON LIQUID DIET. DAY OF, NONE UNTIL PROCEDURE IS COMPLETE. STOP CALCIUM 3 DAYS PRIOR TO COLONOSCOPY STOP IRON & OTHER MINERALS 3 DAYS PRIOR TO COLONOSCOPY COUMADIN/WARFARIN ½ THREE DAYS PRIOR ½ TWO DAYS PRIOR NONE ONE DAY PRIOR STOP ASPIRIN, BRILINTA, XERALTO, PLAVIX & ALL OTHER BLOOD THINNERS 24 HOURS PRIOR TO COLONOSCOPY TAKE SEIZURE RX  AS NORMAL OTHER CHANGES WILL BE DETERMINED BY DR. MARI PRIOR TO YOUR PROCEDURE ON OFFICE VISIT OR TELEHEALTH PRE-PROCEDURAL CONSULTATION. IF YOU HAVE NOT YET COMMUNICATED WITH DR. MARI, PLEASE CALL OUR OFFICE IMMEDIATELY.
